Mumbai: A youtuber Saahil also known as Pradeep Choudhary, a resident of Faridabad, was arrested on Monday by the cyber cell of Mumbai Police from Delhi for allegedly posting videos containing abusive language about women, an official said on Tuesday.
A 33-year-old `YouTuber’ has thousands of subscribers and his videos cover latest issues such as Sushant Singh Rajput’s death or the alleged Bollywood-drug trade nexus.
A complaint was filed by a woman to cyber cell on August 22 that he used abusive language about women in his videos. Chaudhary himself called as a journalist but the claim was found to be false. He is remanded by a court in police custody till Thursday. The police said that the youtuber confessed that he is not a journalist and he was uploading the videos to increase followers on his YouTube channel and other social media handles, such as Instagram.
The police have charged Mr Choudhary under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for abusive language under the guise of being a journalist. He has posted several videos on the Sushant Rajput case having no facts posing to be fake news. He has been arrested under sections 509, 505 (2), 500, 501, 504 and 34 of IPC. He has also been charged under Section 67 of Information Technology Act, 2000.
Similarly, couple of months back in a comedian Agrima Joshua controversy, a 26-year-old YouTuber Shubham Mishra was also detained by the Vadodra city police, after National Commission of Women (NCW) addressed the issue. In the case 28 year old Imtiyaz Sheikh as ‘Umesh Dada’ on Youtube, posted a video where he was seen giving rape threats to Agrima and was arrested.
Earlier, 7 youtubers were arrested in Bengaluru for carrying out ghost pranks. The complaint was made by auto rickshaw driver, the charges were pressed for wrongful restraint, insult, and criminal intimidation.
