Pune: Dead body stuffed inside gunny bag found near Navale bridge

Pune: Dead body of an unidentified man was found stuffed in a gunny bag on Tuesday morning near the Navale bridge off Sinhagad road. The hands and legs of the deceased person were found tied. Bharti Vidyapeeth police rushed to the spot after they received information about this incident. Now, police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased man.

Filing of First Information Report (FIR) is underway at the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station. A case will be registered against unknown suspects in this regard. In this case, the suspects will be booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including murder murder (section 302) said senior police officers.

According to sources, the police control room received a call on Tuesday morning. The caller told police that a gunny bag was seen near the Navale bridge. It was lying in a suspicious manner. Immediately, beat marshal and police personnel on night duty from the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station rushed to the spot.

When police staff checked the gunny bag, they found a dead body stuffed inside. Police said they suspect that the deceased man was killed by some unidentified suspects first. His hands and legs were tied with the help of a rope. Later his dead body was stuffed inside the gunny bag. The bag was then thrown under near the Navale bridge.

Forensics report awaited

Bharati Vidyapeeth police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased man. Crime Branch sleuths and senior police officers also visited the spot. Investigations are underway to identify and locate the suspects. Police are also awaiting the autopsy report of the dead body which will reveal further information. Once the identity of the deceased person is ascertained, it will open up several possibilities of investigations, said an officer from the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

Since the unlocking phase has began in the city, crime incidents have seen an uptick. Most of the incidents have happened over past rivalry between the suspects and the victim.
