Washington: World Health Organization (WHO) director general Tedros Adnom Ghebreyesus said, ‘dexamethasone was found to be very effective in the treatment of corona infections’.

Further added, ‘Dexamethasone has already proven to be effective for severe and critical corona patients. Many other drugs are still under trial. As far as the effective vaccines in the treatment of corona infection is concerned, there are about 180 vaccines worldwide. Of these, 35 vaccines are in various stages of human trials.

WHO’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said, ‘the problems appearing in the trial of AstraZeneca vaccine is like a ‘wake-up call’ but this should not disappoint the scientists’.

‘We have to be fully prepared for such ups and downs in the treatment of coronavirus. We are not disappointed with this development as such incidents are liable to happen. Governments are desperate for a vaccine to end the pandemic’, added Swaminathan.

The head of WHO’s emergency program, Dr. Mike Ryan, said that it is a race against the virus and to save lives. This is not a race between countries to beat each other. In a virtual press conference, WHO officials said that $ 700 million from international donors to provide vaccines to poor people in various countries is less than half the target.

The World Health Organization has set a goal of raising two billion dollars for poor people vaccine. At the same time, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for another $ 35 billion to be raised in the next three months.
