New Delhi : Google Meet extends the feature of unlimited calling. The users can host calls longer than 60 minutes for free until March 2021. Google’s extension of free call will help users who were relying on the Meet app for virtual conferences and other purposes. The policy was set to expire on September 30.

Google Meet was made free for everyone by Google keeping in mind the pandemic followed lockdown. The company also made calls unlimited through September 30 (now extended). The unlimited calls are capped to 24 hours, though. Google had earlier showed signs of at making the free calls paid ones.

“As we look ahead to a holiday season with less travel and important milestones like family reunions, PTA meetings and weddings hosted over video, we want to continue helping those who rely on Meet to stay in touch over the coming months. As a sign of our commitment, today we’re continuing unlimited Meet calls in the free version through March 31, 2021 for Gmail accounts,” said Google in a blog post.

Google also added few features for Meet users such as it can now cast Meet calls to their TV. Users can also access the Meet platform through Nest Hub Max. Other recent features include background blur and digital whiteboard. Google Meet recently added the ability to see up to 49 people in a conference at the same time through the auto and tiled modes. This feature will be available to both G Suite and personal users in the coming weeks.

Google has provided the feature of noise cancellation for video meetings on the Google Meet app. The feature is rolling out for both Android and iOS users. It will be initially available to G Suite Enterprise for Education and G Suite Enterprise users.

With additions of new feature Google Meet has become one of the most popular video conferencing platforms in the world. It enables users to use their smartphones for audio while using their laptops for video in a conference call. This it does by having Google Meet call a user’s phone. Alternatively, Google Meet can also dial into a meeting from a user’s device.

Google says that if there are more than five people in the meeting, you’ll join muted. If your computer is muted before you connect, you’ll join muted so that there is no disturbance created.
