According to the National Crime Records Bureau, police recorded 33,977 cases of rape in India in 2018 – it means every 1 rape every 15 minutes. However, the campaigners say the actual numbers are much higher as many cases are not even reported as not not all make news – only the most brutal or shocking get reported in the press. Most of the time rape crimes are attempted by someone who already knows the victim. So such cases are not reported considering the taboo and stereotypes of the society.
