Hathras: The Uttar Pradesh police officers on Wednesday forcibly cremated Hathras rape victim body in the middle of the night.
The 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died in a Delhi hospital a fortnight after she was gang-raped. The body was burnt without family’s presence as they were locked inside the by the police.
Earlier, the news of her death spread, protests broke out in Delhi as well as in Hathras with all sections of society, including politicians, sports and cine stars and activists, expressing their anguish and demanding justice for her. The politicians where contionously questioned for the brutality.
The family left from Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Tuesday night amid heavy police deployment. The body was taken by the Uttar Pradesh police, which reached Hathras earlier than the family members, claimed a kin of the victim.
Police in a video dismissed to comment on the matter. However the relative of the victim said that the woman’s father was accompanied by 30 to 40 people, chiefly relatives, and others from their neighbourhood had gone to the crematorium near Bool Garhi village, under Chandpa police station limits, in the district in western UP.
Humein ye samajh nahi aa raha kyun, kya chahiye… kaisi rajneeti kar rahe hain ye log, saare ulte seedhe bayaan de rahe hain ke ladki ka rape nahi hua hai… pata nahi kya chahiye inko (We are unable to understand, what they want… what kind of politics is this, they are giving random statements like the woman has not been raped! We don’t know what they want), said the relative who was home with the grieving family. Ye sab is maamle ko thanda karne ke liye bol rahe hain… (They are doing all this to hush up the case), he alleged.
When contacted, Hathras Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir told PTI in a text message: All procedures as per wish of family. Meanwhile, on spot of cremation neither family was allowed nor the media were allowed to step in.
The woman was raped in a village in Hathras by four upper caste men on September 14. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred AIIMS hospital in Delhi, but instead was sent to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital where she breathed her last on Tuesday. The police have forcibly taken the dead body, and my father along with them for cremation, said victims brother.
The victim of the gang rape in Hathras has died 15 days after the accident. According to doctors, the victim died due to injury to the throat and spinal cord. The victim also suffered a hip injury due to dragging and falling. The lower part was not working. She was unable to move due to a neck injury, said the CMO of the Trauma Center at JN Medical College.
The victim’s father alleges that when we reached Delhi AIIMS to enroll the daughter, it was refused there and have to go to Safdarjung Hospital, while the daughter’s condition was very bad. Even after telling all this, she was not admitted.
Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said that it is a shame that the victim was not admitted to AIIMS even after most of the beds were empty. The daughter brought to AIIMS from UP was admitted to Safdarjung. This is serious negligence.
The brutality was not enough when the victim was raped and had multiple organ failures due to pressure applied by the accused. The UP officials left no stone unturned to show disrespect to victims body after her death.
A video of police officers consoling the victim’s family went viral. The police argued that it was mistake of you people also that today you are going through this.
