New Delhi : Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that photographs sent from India’s first lunar mission ‘Chandrayaan-1’ suggest that there may be rust on the poles of the moon.

Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008. Singh, Minister of State for the Department of Space, said, “Photographs have been sent from ISRO’s first mission to the Moon which indicates that there may be rust on the Moon’s poles.”

He further said that it is believed that there are iron-rich rocks on the moon but the presence of water and oxygen has not yet been detected. While it is necessary for iron to come in contact with water and oxygen to get rust.

According to a report, scientists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) believe that this may be because the Earth’s environment is contributing to it or it may be that the Earth’s environment also protects the Moon. According to the statement, the data of Chandrayaan-1 and the photographs taken indicate that there is possibility of water on the poles of the moon, which is what scientists are trying to understand.
