Mumbai: Recently, three controversial farmer’s bills were passed in parliament which has erupted nationwide protest. The opposition parties including Congress have been part of the agitation state-wise across the country.  Congress as a part of its ongoing campaign is all set to organize “Kisan Bachao” virtual farmers rally in 10000 villages on October 15. The State Congress president Balasaheb Thorat announced the initiative on Tuesday.

Thorat said, “The party expects around 50 lakh farmers to participate during Thursday’s rally, which will also be streamed live through social media handles. The virtual rally is an effort to mobilise support against the central government’s controversial farm laws”. “The “Kisan Bachao” virtual rally is part of the party’s ongoing nationwide campaign seeking the withdrawal of the legislations”, added Thorat.

The event will be organized with All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers who are also expected to attend the event. As a part of the event, the state Congress will be setting up big LED and LCD television screens across the 10,000 villages to reach out to the marginalized farming community for the purpose of the rally.

The virtual rally will be at 5 locations in the state simultaneously – Sangamner (Ahmednagar), Aurangabad, Amravati, Nagpur and in the Konkan belt to create awareness among the farmers what farm bills will bring out for them.

The congress party has accused the Narendra Modi-led central government move of pushing farm bills without considering farmers’ opinion as “anti-farmer” legislations in an undemocratic fashion. The party started a two-month long nationwide campaign from September 26 onwards. This move of Congress will also serve as an opportunity to regain some of its lost political space.

The Congress has also directed party workers to collect signatures from farmers and Agriculture Produce Market Committee traders by October 31. On November 14, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the party had plans to submit a detailed memorandum along with the signatures of farmers from across India to President Ram Nath Kovind.
