Maharashtra govt body, ‘MAVIM’ launched e-business platform for women farmers

Mumbai: MAVIM- Mahila Aarthik Vikas Mahamandal, has launched an e-business platform to help women farmers and members of self-help groups get better prices for their agricultural produce.

There are total 1,39 lakh self help groups associated with MAVIM. Among them 97,499 are from rural and 39,591 are from urban areas, with 11.81 lakh and 4.28 lakh women members in them respectively.

According to the official, The information of agricultural produce related to 1.5 lakh women farmers have been uploaded on the e-business platform. They will be provided market links, smartphones and each village will have one business volunteer.

The move came to empower the women farmer, especially in coronavirus crisis were physical contact has been difficult. The government is finding different ways to boost farmers activity.

The State Women’s Development Corporation of Government of Maharashtra, established Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM) on the 24th February,1975 on the occasion of International Women’s year. It is now working for more than 55 years. MAVIM has been declared as a Nodal agency by Government of Maharashtra on 20th January 2003 to implement various women empowerment program through Self Help Groups (SHGs).
