Mumbai: Neena Gupta is a bindass Bollywood actress who not just challenged people’s prejudice against women but she also overcame it in her life as well. She has always lived her life on her own terms.She had her daughter Masaba after her brief relationship with former West Indies cricketing icon Vivian Richards in the eighties but never married again and went on to raise her daughter as a single mother. She later, at the age of 50, went on to marry Vivek Mehra, a New Delhi-based chartered accountant, on July 15, 2008. It has always been a mystery how Neena might have broken the news of her marriage to her grown-up daughter. She has now finally answered the million-dollar question.
“Frankly, I didn’t have to tell her. Vivek and I were going around for 8/10 years; he used to come down to my house in Mumbai and I often used to go to Delhi. But yes, precisely speaking, when I told Masaba that I want to get married, she wanted to know why. I told her that marriage is important if you have to live in this society else you don’t get respect and, Masaba understood me”, said Neena
Masaba is one person who will do anything for her mother’s happiness whether she likes it or not. So, I was not worried. I was just feeling a bit awkward in telling her that,” Neena Gupta added.
Initially, to raise Masaba she took backstep and became a full time housewife as it was hard to juggle between work and baby. It was not working for her husband and daughter started taking her for granted. She soon realised it and started making calls, asking for the work. She also posted on social media asking for the work
One day when she went to a director’s house, her assistant saw and asked her when she came to Mumbai. It was this time when she realised why she was not getting good offers. She got to know that people thought that she wasn’t living in Mumbai and had shifted to Delhi after marriage, which was very frustrating for the actress.
Neena Gupta was recently seen in Masaba Masaba, she is known for her roles in Badhai Ho and Shubha Mangalam Jyada Savdhan.
