New Delhi: Parliament’s monsoon session may be adjourned indefinitely on Wednesday, eight days ahead of schedule amid concerns over the coronavirus outbreak. The decision has reportedly been taken after some ministers and several MPs were found to be Covid-19 positive.
Sources said that the Rajya Sabha proceedings could be adjourned indefinitely after taking up five bills on Wednesday. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the Lower House will convene at 6pm on Wednesday instead of 3pm.
According to sources the lower house session may also be adjourned indefinitely after taking up some issues including zero hour. According to sources, several bills have been passed in both the houses in the session which started on September 14, including bills introduced to replace some recently enacted ordinances.
The decision to adjourn the session indefinitely has been brought to the notice of the leaders of all parties in the lower house, sources said. The monsoon session was scheduled to continue till October 1. However, in the last few days, several MPs including some ministers, have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection.

Three important bills related to agriculture were passed in this session. Eight opposition MPs were suspended from the House. The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were disrupted for the first time due to opposition of bills in the Rajya Sabha. The proceedings of the House started at 4pm instead of 3pm on Monday (September 21) and lasted till 12.30am late night while the scheduled time for the proceedings was till 7pm.
