New Delhi : The Prime Minister’s Office keeps a record of every question asked under the Right to Information (RTI), but does not keep a record of the petitioners associated with the PM Cares Fund. The Prime Minister’s office has given this information in response to the RTI filed by a leading media news channel. It was asked how many RTI applications / questions have been received by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) since March 1, 2020? Provide information of received applications.

The PMO responded that 3852 RTI applications were received from March 1 to June 30. That is, in 4 months, the PMO received 3852 applications. On an average, 32 applications were received everyday by the PMO. In the application, we also asked the PMO about the number of RTI petitions received in the PM Care Fund. On this, the PMO replied that the format in which you are asking for information is not kept in this office.

This means that the Prime Minister’s Office keeps the data of all the RTIs filed, but it does not keep the records related to the PM Cares Fund. All RTIs are taken in a specific format and specific questions are asked.

Earlier the PMO also refused to disclose the amount deposited in PM Cares FUnd. Under the RTI, an RTI activist asked for information about the amount deposited in the PM Cares Fund, then the PMO refused to give this information. The PMO said that under the Right to Information Act, PM Cares Fund is not a public authority, hence this information cannot be provided.
