Pune: Additional Sessions Judge R V Adone rejected bail application of Dr Vidya Dhananjay Godras in connection with a case of duping a patient of Rs 1.47 crore on the pretext of cancer treatment. The patient Sushma Jadhav (58) who has filed a case against Dr Godras works as an auditor at the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Officers).

Dr Vidya Godras (51), is a resident of Kondhwa and runs ‘Dhanvantari Naturopathy Clinic’ at the Brahma Estate building in Kondhwa Budruk. She has been booked under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR has been lodged at Wanawadi police station.

The complainant Jadhav had come in contact with Dr Godras through a common friend in 2017. She had treated Jadhav for a knee problem at the clinic in Kondhwa. Based on the past experience, Jadhav approached Dr Godras in June this year for another medical problem.

Dr Godras informed Jadhav that she had shut her clinic and has taken a franchise of Canada-based Ayurvedic organisation. When Jadhav told her about the medical issues, Godras without any checkup replied that she was suffering from a liver ailment and cancer.

Godras started treatment by giving some medicines and in return took huge amount of money. Dr Godras refused to share details of the medicines and her reports. When the complainant ran out of money, she asked her lawyer husband for financial help. He demanded medical reports and sought Dr Godras’s appointment on December 3.

Dr Godras claimed to deliver medical reports only after the treatment was over. Jadhav realised that Dr Godras has duped her for Rs 1.47 crore till now and then filed a complaint. Bank accounts of Dr Godras have been sealed by police. The money was taken through cheques and cash transactions.

Meanwhile, Dr Godras had applied for bail in the court. Public Prosecutor Dr Rajesh Kavedia opposed her application stating that the suspect might destroy evidence in the case and may also flee out of the city. The court accepted the prosecution argument and denied bail to Dr Godras.
