Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a demolition drive and pulled down an illegally constructed four storeyed building at Lohegaon. The action was taken at the Sant Nagar area amidst heavy police protection provided by the Vimantal Police Station.

Rohidas Gavhane, Executive Engineer of the PMC, headed the squad which carried out the drive. A total of 11500 square feet of illegal construction was demolished by the squad on Saturday (December 5). PMC Deputy Engineer Kiran Kalshetty, Junior Engineer Farooq Patel, Datta Chavan, Neelkanth Shilwant accompanied the squad.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare has appealed to citizens to carry out construction only after obtaining approval from the PMC. “Common citizens should avoid buying homes in buildings which are constructed sans permission from the civic body,” Waghmare said.
Illegal constructions have flourished in the Nagar Road area. Some developers tend to construct multi-storeyed buildings in small size plots. These developers later try to ‘regularise’ the illegal constructions. Common citizens who are in search of affordable homes, buy such properties at competitively lower market prices. However, later when the PMC takes action, citizens have to face losses.
