November 26, 2020

Pune: The National Research Centre for Onion and Garlic, Pune has been working on a project for the past three years in regards to increasing the life capacity of onions. Considering the changing weather conditions, onion prices have been spiking every year now.

To make the situation better for both the farmers and consumers, the government institute has invented a machine which increases the consumption span of onions by four months.

The invention can store upto 100 tonnes of onions at a time without any damage as the device has temperature, humidity control and proper aeration.

Speaking about it, Rajeev Kale, a scientist involved in the project and a member of the national institute said, “Considering the change in the pattern of weather and how it is now affecting the agricultural produce, we thought of designing a product that’d help farmers to store the onions for a longer duration.”
