Varanasi: The three friends in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh left their job during the Coronavirus period and started oyster farming. All three are engaged in fulfilling PM Narendra Modi’s dream of self-reliant India through new-age agriculture.
These three friends are now teaching new age agriculture to the villagers in Narayanpur, a village in Chaubepur area of Chiragaon block in Varanasi. The young educated farmers Shwetank, Rohit and Amit are cultivating oysters in small ponds built by them. They are also associated with beekeeping and goat rearing.
Shwetank, MA- B.W was always interested in oyster farming. He took the reins of oyster farming, said that this is similar to other kinds of farming, but there is a slight difference in pearl farming. With the help of agricultural enterprises they are cultivating pearls. So they started gathering information about it through the internet and took training for it. So far, they have made three times the profit by extracting pearls from oyster.
Rohit Anand Pathak, who looks after beekeeping, said that after doing BA from BHU, he started beekeeping. He took training from Delhi Gandhi Darshan in order to do something new instead of traditional farming. Along with farming, they are training others. Now companies selling honey and medicines are purchasing honey from them.
The ultimate goal of these three is to add more two hundred people to this effort. The cabinet minister of UP government and the MLA of the area, Anil Rajbhar, have encouraged the young farmers. He said that these young farmers are not only involved in campaigns to make themselves self-reliant but also other people self-sufficient.
