UP Congress President arrested for protesting over Hathras Rape case

Hathras: The victim in Hathras rape case died on 29 September, once again erupting outrage as in Delhi rape case of 2012. This escalated after midnight cremation of Rape victims dead body. Congress party took streets to protest across the state on Wednesday and targeted the Yogi government. In Lucknow, party workers demonstrated under the leadership of state president Ajay Kumar Lallu and tried to sabotage the Chief Minister’s residence.

The police lathicharge to stop the protester to enter the CMO premises. The police arrested Congress state president and Congress workers, they were raising slogans referring to Chief Minister Yogi resignation. Congress workers traveled from the VVIP guest house to the Chief Minister’s residence but were stopped by policemen. During the protest, the activists were also pushed by the policemen.

The police administration is facing allegations of showing insensitivity and arbitrariness as it cremated the dead body of the victim on Tuesday night without the will of the family. The suspicion of activist has grew as the procedure of creating body was hushed.

On Wednesday morning, Congress’s UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted that, “the family kept on begging for dead body at 2.30 pm but the victim of Hathras was forcibly cremated by the Uttar Pradesh administration. The government did not protect her while she was alive and did not provide timely treatment when she was attacked”.

She further tweeted , “after the death of the victim, the government took away the right of the family to perform the funeral of the daughter and did not honor the deceased. This is gross inhumanity. You did not stop crime, but treated her like criminal. The torture did not stop, you tortured an innocent child and her family twice”. Priyanka Gandhi said that Yogi Adityanath should resign. There is no justice in your rule, only injustice is dominated.

However, the state government has constituted a three-member SIT committee to investigate the matter and ordered the matter to be heard in a fast track court.

The Hathras gangrape incident has created shockwaves across the nation. The people have gathered on India gate to protest the brutality of both accused and the police officials.
