Baramati: Dacoits open fire on police officers, escape into sugarcane farms at Phaltan

Pune: Two suspects involved in the dacoity and robbery incidents at Kapurhol and Morgaon respectively, opened fire on a police team consisting an assistant police inspector who chased them on Sunday at Wadane village near Phaltan in Satara district.

The suspects have been identified as Appa Mane and Suhas Sonwalkar. Assistant Police Inspector Somnath Lande, Police Sub-Inspector Nanaware and their colleagues from Wadgaon Nimbalkar police station tried to nab the suspects when they tried to escape on a bike from jurisdiction of Rajgad police station.

The suspects managed to escape into a sugarcane farm. The suspects are from the Wadale village itself, informed Additional Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Milind Mohite. The suspects are criminal-on-police-record and it was known that they carry weapons with them. Hence the police team was also armed with fire weapons, Additional SP Mohite claimed.

Mohite said, “The suspects had opened three rounds of fire while looting the jeweller shop in Kapurhol chowk. We have sought help of Phaltan police to trace the suspects and we will arrest them soon.”
