BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar aala CM to close state-run madrassas

Mumbai: After Assam government has announced to issue notification to shut down madrassas and 100 Sanskrit tols in order to convert it into modern education. BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar in a letter urges Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to make similar changes to the education system on Thursday.

Maharashtra BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar, “I have written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asking him to emulate the Assam government’s decision to curb State-run madrassas in Maharashtra so that Muslim community students can get modern education.”

The MLA Bhatkhalkar wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asking him to show courage to shut down the state- funded madrasas and prove his “Hindutva credentials”.

Earlier, similar remarks of proving Hindutva were made by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari after he wrote to the CM in regards to reopening the places of worship in the state. Koshyari also asked him whether he had suddenly turned secular. Thereafter BJP has escalated its attack on Thackeray over the Hinduism card. In response to this, Thackeray on Tuesday said he does not need the governor’s certificate for “my Hindutva”.

Bhatkhalkar attacked Thackeray mentioned in the letter that- The chief minister of Maharashtra who pointed out that he does not require anyone’s certificate to prove his Hindutva must take courageous step to shut down the state-funded madrasas that propagate radical religious teachings. He also exclaimed, “It is wrong to use taxpayer money to run religious educational institutions which do not offer modern education and only teach one’s religion”.

Bhatkhalkar congratulated the Assam government for converting madrassas in modern schools and said that students from the Muslim community should be offered a direct scholarship so that they can attend mainstream schools.

“The similar demands were also made by Shia Waqf Board chief Wasim Rizvi to the Prime Minister to ban madrasas and offer scholarships to students and religious preachers”, added BJP MLA from north Mumbai.
