Pune: Baramati tehsildar and cops came together and prevented a child marriage in Dorlewadi area of Baramati. The incident took place on Monday (November 30). Both the families were warned and let off after Baramati police took preventive action against them.
The families belong to the Vaidu community. The girl belonged to Baramati while the boy was from Kedgaon in Daund. The families had made all preparations for the marriage ceremony.
However, Baramati tehsildar received a tipoff along with the photograph of the minor girl. The officer informed Baramati City police station in charge Namdev Shinde. The next morning, a team of policemen reached the house.
The parents of the girl and the boy were summoned to the police station. They were informed about the illegality of child marriages and the adverse impact it has on the minor boy and girl.
The families agreed to cancel the marriage ceremony and hence were let off by the police after being warned.
