Pune: Hinjawadi traffic police have filed FIR against Nikhil Construction Private Limited, a renowned government contracted based in Pune, on charges of obstructing traffic at the Kaspate Corner in Wakad area while carrying out road digging work.

The company’s website claims that “it is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company and has set benchmark in infrastructure development for the government projects, highways, hospitals, footpaths, cycle tracks, industrial constructions, residential contracting as well as infrastructure, water pipeline and drainage system etc.”

The FIR against Nikhil Construction has been filed on Saturday (January 9) 10.45pm by Police Sub-Inspector Somnath Bapurao Handal from Hinjawadi Traffic Division at the Wakad Police Station. Umesh Raju Ingle (34), a resident of Dhankawadi and Ashwin Maruti Khonde (35), a resident of Lohegaon have also been booked in this connection. The FIR has been filed under sections 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) and 291 (continuance of nuisance after injunction to discontinue) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the complaint, digging work was being carried out by Nikhil Construction from Wakad Gaon to Kaspate Chowk road. The road was dug 2 metre in length and 3 metre in width at the Kaspate Corner. The debris was dumped on the road itself which was causing obstruction to the traffic.

“The contractor did not put up any barricades, blinkers or warning strip at the site while carrying out the work. Wardens were also not appointed to regulate the traffic flow which was affected due to the work. The contractor had also not given any prior intimation to the Hinjawadi traffic division about the work being carried out. As a result, government vehicles, ambulances, PMPML buses, pedestrians, senior citizens and local citizens had to face unnecessary hardships while using the road,” the complaint states.

Assistant Police Inspector V G Birajdar is investigating the case further.
