Pune Rural Police bust IPL betting racket in Shirur

Shirur: A team of local crime branch has taken action against online betting in Shirur and confiscated goods worth Rs 73,505, informed local crime branch police inspector Padmakar Ghanwat.
Police Inspector Padmakar Ghanwat received a tip regarding the Dream 11 Twenty20 match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capital at the Sharjah Stadium in Dubai at Shirur Halwai Chowk, following the tip they took the cognizance of it. Police personnel Amol Gore, Dayanand Liman, Rauf Inamdar,  Momin, Shelke, Kamble, Akshay Jawale raided the place. During the raid, Rahul Gorakh Ghodke threw his betting material on the spot and fled from his building to the next building.
An Intex LCD TV, a Vivo mobile phone, Rs 12,280 in cash, two foolscap registers and a set-top box worth Rs 73,505 were seized from the spot and a case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Gambling Act, police said.
Earlier, a similar raid took place in Kolkata. ARS raided guest houses and residences at Salt Lake, Dalhousie, Jadavpur and on Park Street and arrested nine people. Seventeen mobiles, 14 laptops, three TV sets, a car and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash were seized from them, 9 were arrested.
A betting racket was busted in 2013 when Delhi Police arrested three cricketers, Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, on the charges of alleged spot-fixing. The three represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 Indian Premier League.  In July 2015, the RM Lodha Committee suspended India Cements and Jaipur IPL, owners of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively, for two years.
