Pune Sinhagad Road: Nanded city resident arrested in fake recruitment scam

Pune: A 54-year-old man residing in Lalit building of Nanded city residential project on Sinhagad Road has been arrested by Pune Rural police on charges of duping several people in Pune, Nagar and Kolhapur to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Vijaykumar Shripati Patil (54). Patil hails from Kolhapur and used to stay at Shrikrishna Colony in Sambhajinagar of Kolhapur. He was arrested by police after one Pramod Ramchandra Ayrekar from Kolhapur lodged a complaint at Haveli police station recently.

Ayrekar has stated in his complaint that Patil had taken Rs 12 lakh cash from him on the pretext of giving Ayrekar’s wife a job in Sassoon hospital. Patil had also reportedly handed over a fake appointment letter to Ayrekar. When the complainant inquired about the job at Sassoon hospital, he realised that the appointment letter is fake and Patil had cheated him. Ayrekar then approached Haveli police station and filed a complaint.

Investigations revealed that Patil has cheated around 17 to 18 people from Akole tehsil of Ahmednagar district. He has reportedly collected Rs 1.25 crore from these people on the pretext of giving them a job in educational institutes.

Haveli police suspect that Patil was hands in glove with some other suspects who are working in these institutes and working as agents. Patil had offered jobs to some youth from Akole at the organisations in Shirur tehsil, however these organisations were unaided.

Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh has appealed to citizens to come forward and file their complaints if they have been a victim of any such fraud.
