Pune: Speeding truck kills auto rickshaw driver at Navale bridge near Sinhagad Road, eight vehicles damaged

Pune: In yet another fatal accident at the Navale bridge on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass near Sinhagad Road, a 64-year-old auto rickshaw driver Rajendra Gadhve, residing at Ambegaon Pathar, got killed and eight vehicles were damaged after a speeding truck rammed into them due to its brake failure. The truck was heading from Rajasthan to Mumbai when the accident took place at 6pm on Sunday (November 29).

The Navale bridge stretch is known to be accident prone. This is the second accident reported this month at this stretch of the highway. Four cars, two bikes, an auto rickshaw and a tempo were damaged in the accident.

Sinhagad Road police have detained the truck driver Premaram Pannaram Bishnoi, a resident of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. A FIR has been registered against the  driver Bishnoi at Sinhagad Road Police Station.

According to police, The truck was heading towards Mumbai and was over-speeding. When the truck came near Navale Bridge, it is suspected that the brakes of the truck failed and its front tyre burst. Due to this the driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed into vehicles.

THe impact of the collision was such that the 64-year-old auto rickshaw driver was killed on the spot. Other motorists were also injured in the accident and they were rushed to private hospitals for treatment. Of the injured, two motorists are said to be in critical condition.
