Surat : Injuries to private parts of man in police custody

Umra: The police brutality and inhuman behaviour has come to light in a bizarre incident in Surat district of Gujarat. A man locked in Umra police station has accused police of keeping him in captivity for one week and behaving barbarously with him. The man was arrested on the charges of theft without official complaint.

A man named Mohammad Javed has claimed that he was kept in custody for a week after being apprehended. Javed has alleged that he was tortured by police by inserting iron rod, petrol and chilli in his private part. Javed’s lawyer Yusuf Shaikh presented the accused in the court. The court ordered to register a case against Inspector Kuldeep Singh Jhala of Umra police station.

On October 6, a case was registered against Mohammad Javed at Umra police station for purchasing stolen goods. Police have reported the arrest of Mohammad Javed on 13 October. However, Javed says that the police arrested him on October 5, but neither pressed charges and nor presented him in court. Javed was harassed and physically abused on 11 October. Sanjay Jain’s mobile was stolen on September 20 in Umra police station area.

After recording Javed’s statement, the court ordered a medical examination. According to Dr. Dinesh Mandal, CMO of Civil Hospital, Javed’s private parts had injuries. The doctors found injury in the private part as well as injuries on legs, thighs in the primary examination.
