Two killed after truck hits two-wheeler on Mumbai-Agra highway

Nashik: In a tragic road accident, two persons died on the spot after a speeding truck (MH18 BG0117) hit their two-wheeler (MH19DA4352) at Chalisgaon on Mumbai-Agra highway, the police said.

Police have arrested the truck driver identified as Dronagiri Gosavi, a resident of Awadhan, Dhule district, in the case.

The deceased, identified as Pankaj Muralidhar Patil, 25, resident of Chalisgaon, was riding his two-wheeler on the highway when the truck hit him.

After receiving the information, police inspectors Devidas Dhumane, Kailas Gujar, Sachin Dalvi, Akshay Patil, Sharad Mughal and others rushed to the spot.

Police upon reaching the spot matched the number plates and obtained information through the Sub-Regional Transport Department. The police also recovered mobile phones of the victims. The identity of other deceased is yet to be ascertained, police said.

The police sent the bodies to a general hospital for autopsy with the help of social worker Shafiq Ahmed and civilians.

According to the data of Maharashtra Highway Police, 12,788 people lost their lives in 11,787 fatal accidents on highways in 2019 as compared to 13,261 lives lost in 2018 in 12,098 fatal accidents. Similarly, in 2019 the highway police recorded total 32,925 accidents while the number was 35,717 in 2018.
