Big Change in Pension Scheme, know the change in rules ‘here’

Pune :  The ministry of Defence issued a notification on Tuesday, to remove the mandatory rule of 7 years continuous service to receive Enhanced Ordinary Family Pension (EOFP) to the family in case of death of a military worker. This new rule will benefit thousands of government employees of the country and their families.

The Ministry of Defence in an official statement said, earlier the family used to get the pension only after the first seven years of service. According to the statement, the pension is supposed to be half of the last salary of the military personnel and received by the family for ten years from the day of employee death.  The essential condition of continuous service for seven years has been removed from October, 2019 as per the statement.

If EOFP was half of the salary of military personnel, then the Ordinary Family Pension (OFP) would get 30% of salary. In addition, those families of the Defence Force who died within ten years before 1st October 2019 without completing seven years of continuous service will also be eligible for EOFP from 1st October 2019. If the service worker dies after leaving the job, retirement, retirement, then EOFP is given for seven years from the date of his death or till the time the worker is 67 years, whichever is earlier.

The Defence Ministry said, “Families of those Defence personnel, who died within 10 years before October 1, 2019 before serving for seven consecutive years, will now get EOFP. So far, the rule was eligibility required for pension was 7 years of service but now it has been abolished. The EOFP defence personnel have 50 % of their previous salary, while the Ordinary Family Pension (OFP) personnel have 30% of their previous salary.

The central government is implementing initiatives to make the entire pension system digital.  It announced the launch of the ambitious information technology project ‘Sunidhi’.  It will digitize all activities related to the Provident Fund and Pensions of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organization (CMPFO). The CMPFO is a statutory body under the Ministry of Coal, which manages various schemes of the Provident Fund, pension and deposit related insurance schemes for the coal mine employees. The Ministry of Coal said in a statement, ‘CMPFO on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti’ Superior New-Generation Information and Data Handling Initiative (Sunidhi) Yoj.
