New Delhi : Jio, the telecom unit of Reliance Industries, which makes Jio feature phones, is now going to knock into the smartphone world. Cheap Android powered smartphone will be brought by Jio. Jio’s new smartphone will support 4G and 5G technology. This Android powered smartphone of Jio is expected to be launched by December. Jio is manufacturing about 10 crore low-cost smartphones on Google’s Android-based platform.
According to Business Standard report, Jio’s Android smartphone will come with many great data packs. The phone can be launched in December this year or early next year. Reliance is India’s most valued company. An investment of about Rs 33,102 crore was announced by Alphabet company of Google in its digital unit in July this year. Reliance, headed by Mukesh Ambani, said in July that an Android operating system (OS) was being developed by Google, on which Reliance would design the 4G and 5G smartphones.
The arrival of Jio’s new smartphone could shock Chinese smartphone companies such as Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo and Vivo, which dominate the low-cost smartphone market in India. These Chinese companies occupy the Indian market of about Rs 14,713 crore ($ 2 billion). Of this, the smartphone share is about Rs 7,360 crore.
