Pune doctor duped of Rs 1.7 lakh while shopping online

Pune: It has come to light that a doctor was cheated of Rs 1 lakh 07 thousand on pretext of giving a gift, doctor had received a call from unknown number other person saying that he was speaking from an e-commerce company. A case has been registered at the Wanwadi police station.

In this regard, Dr. Robin Pramod Chaudhary (33, resident of Wanwadi, native of Bihar) has lodged a complaint. Robin Chowdhury was working as a doctor in Command Hospital. He made the purchase on October 14 on Amazon. He then saw an ad link while shopping online. When he clicked on it, he got a call from a person. “It will give you a direct 20% discount on the items you buy on Amazon.” Also, the person on the phone gave him an attractive gift. Doctor bought 33,000 items from Amazon. For this, he paid Rs 33,000 online. After this, the person in front called and said that did not get the money. After this, the doctor was again given a bill of Rs 33,000 and the man on the other side asked him to send money again and the doctor followed his instruction.

After sending the money three times, Robin asked for a refund of Rs 66,000. Then the person on line asked the doctor to send the bank account details of his wife. He said he would send the refund on it. Robin accordingly sent his wife’s bank details. When the person in front again asked how much money is there in the account, Robin said it has Rs 13,000. He then asked Robin for an OTP over the phone. Upon receiving the OTP, he also withdrew Rs 13,000 from Robin’s wife’s account. The accused allegedly forced them to deposit the amount online in four to five different bank accounts. The case is being investigated by police inspector Salim Chaudhry.
