Pune: House painters steal client’s necklace, take Rs 50000 gold loan from Manappuram Finance

Pune: Police have arrested two house painters who allegedly stole a gold necklace from their customer’s house in Kirkatwadi near Khadakwasla. The thieves went ahead and took a gold loan of Rs 50000 from Shukrawar Peth branch of Manappuram Finance Company. Investigations revealed that arrested suspects are brothers and their mother was also involved in the cover up of the crime.

The suspects have been identified as Mangesh Chandrakant Dhumak (30) and Nilesh Chandrakant Dhumak (25), both residents of Janata Vasahat near Parvati. The duo have criminal antecedents and have several cases registered against them at different police stations. Jayshree Aakash Karanjawane has filed a complaint in this regard at Haveli police station.

According to police, the two suspects has taken the job of painting the house of one Aakash Karanjawane. They did the work on October 3 to 7 in the house. While doing their job, the two kept a watch on the movement of the clients family members and at an opportune time stole the gold necklace.

The complainant realized on October 12 that their gold necklace has been stolen. They rushed to the police station and filed a complaint. When police started investigations, they were told that the two suspects had been given entry into the house for the painting work. Accordingly, police called the duo for interrogation. They confessed that they had stolen the necklace, but told police that they had taken a gold loan against it from the Shukrawar Peth branch of Manappuram Finance Company. This loan was taken in the name of their mother. When police called up their mother for interrogation, she initially refused to answer the questions. So police conducted a search at their residence where they found receipts about the gold loan.

Senior Police Inspector Ashok Shelke, Assistant Police Sub Inspector Ajit Shinde, police constables Sanjay Shendge, Dinesh Kolekar, Ramdas Babar, Rajendra Mundhe investigated this case. Inspector Shelke told mediapersons that they will be questioning the concerned persons at Manappuram Finance Company as they had given the gold loan without proper verification of the owner.
