Pune: Rescued minor girl flees from Shivajinagar court premises

Pune: A minor girl – who was recently rescued from human trafficking racket – escaped from the custody of Bharati Vidyapeeth police while she was being produced in the Shivajinagar court for the hearing.

The minor girl is originally from Kolhapur and was kept with other girls at the corrective home after they were rescued from the human traffickers in Katraj area. A total of four girls were rescued in the action at that time.

According to sources, Police Inspector (Crime) Arjun Dhotre from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station along with his staff had brought the girls to the Shivajinagar court premises amid adequate police protection.

While the girls were to be produced in the courtroom, one of them managed to escape. When the police team realised this, they began searching for the girl. However, the girl could not be traced. Bharati Vidyapeeth police have launched an operation to trace the girl and bring her back.

Meanwhile, a police constable Shraddha Akolkar (35) was arrested on Thursday (January 14) on charges of taking bribe of Rs 5000 from the accused in the same case for filing chargesheet in the court within the stipulated time frame.
