Pune: Students organisations have demanded action against Pune University security staffers who allegedly beat up a BSc student of Garware College on Wednesday (November 26). These organisations have also warned of protests if the Pune University does not take action in this case.

Aditya Tangde Patil, the Garware college student, had gone to the exam department of Savitribai Phule Pune University to get his marksheet revised. He had obtained good marks in all subjects except one in which he was shown to have got zero marks. Aditya had appeared for the final year examinations conducted by the Pune University in the online format.

Officials of the University exam department did not heed to Aditya’s requests and hence he decided to approach the examination board director Dr Mahesh Kakade. When he went to Dr Kakade’s cabin, Aditya allegedly started recording the conversation on his mobile phone. Dr Kakade called his security staff and asked them to take Aditya downstairs. It was at that time, the staff started beating up Aditya and detained him for two hours. Aditya was then thrown out of the University campus by the security staffers.

Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena has demanded that the Pune University should give an explanation on this incident within 24 hours. The staff which manhandled the students and the officer who instructed them to do should be punished strictly. MNVS City President Kalpesh Yadav has made this demand and has submitted a letter to the Vice Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar.

Vaibhav Edke, President of the Maharashtra Student Welfare Association said, “The exam department officials should have addressed the issue faced by Aditya in time. If they had done so, the subsequent incident would not had happened. Students have had to face such arrogance from the exam department earlier too.”

Kamlakar Shete of Yuvak Kranti Dal said, “Students are facing huge problems about exams and its results. The University administration is delaying the issues and unable to resolve them. Instead of improving the situation, the administration has beaten up student. Who gave them the right to do so?”
