New Delhi : The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday rejected Pakistan’s attempts to nominate two Indian nationals as terrorists under the 1267 sanctions committee process, as Pakistan was unable to produce enough evidence to substantiate its allegations. This attempt by Pakistan is seen as a response to India’s success in enlisting Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the 1267 committee. However, he failed.
Pakistan launched an initiative in 2019 to nominate a total of four Indians as terrorists. The neighboring country has been repeatedly telling the UN Security Council that the four Indian nationals were allegedly involved in state sponsored terrorism. Pakistan alleged that all of these were part of an Afghanistan-based group that helped organize terrorist attacks by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.
A person aware of the entire development, on the condition of anonymity, said that the two Indians are Venumadhav Dongra and Ajoy Mistry. Pakistan’s claim was rejected by the Security Council in June-July. This was largely due to the efforts of the United States, Britain, France and Germany.
Efforts were also initiated by Pakistan to nominate two other Indians identified as Gobinda Patnaik and Angara Appaji. Which was blocked by the US, Britain, Germany, France and Belgium via a “technical hold”. A person aware of the matter said that these countries wanted Pakistan to provide evidence to prove their allegations.
During the discussion on the matter on Wednesday, the Security Council rejected Pakistan’s attempt to declare two Indians as terrorists, as the neighboring country failed to produce evidence.
In recent months, Pakistan has repeatedly tried to explain to various bodies of the United Nations that India is promoting terrorism. But for this, it has not been able to give any proof till date. Pakistan also falsely claimed that its envoy made a statement at the UN Security Council meeting on terrorism. But later it was proved wrong.
Pakistan had recently demanded that some Indians working in Afghanistan be declared as terrorists.
