CBDT probes false affidavit allegations against Uddhav Thackeray and Supriya Sule

New Delhi: The Election Commission has reminded the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) that it had requested an inquiry into allegations of filing false affidavits against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his minister son Aditya Thackeray and NCP Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule.

According to the sources, the Election Commission referred the complaint to CBDT about a month ago. It calls for an investigation into the veracity of assets and liabilities shown in electoral affidavits. Presently, the affidavit under Section -125A of the Representation of the People Act has provision for a jail term of up to six months or fine or both for a person convicted of lying.

The Election Commission till June this year had ask the complainant to go directly to the court on the issue of alleged false affidavits. But on 16 June, the Commission announced that it would take cognizance of complaints of wrong or false information related to criminal history, assets and educational qualifications in electoral affidavits and refer them to competent agencies on a case-by-case basis.

Earlier, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has addressed the people of the state amid controversies with Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. However, he did not spoke about he Kangana Ranaut controversy but he did mention, don not take my silence for granted. I have lot to look after and this not right time to do politics.
