In last 24 hours, 190 State Police Personnel were tested coronavirus positive

Mumbai: Over 190 police personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 23,879 in the force, said the Maharashtra Police. The number of coronavirus positive cases among police personnel is constantly increasing. While there are 2,758 active cases, 20,871 police personnel in the state have recovered from the disease. The two new deaths are reported for the same period making the COVID-19 death toll in the force reach 250.

The Maharashtra Police said 369 policemen found assaulted, 78 health professionals were attacked and 915 people violated quarantine protocols. While 39,004 people were arrested, 96,532 vehicles were seized to date in the state from March 22.

With an increase of 1,069 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 toll surpassed 1 lakh in India on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The State police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) testing positive for the novel coronavirus has constituted around 2% of the total caseload of India. Currently, 664 deaths and over 1.21 lakh personnel from CAPF and State police force.

According to data collected by IPF, 1, 21,903 cases have been reported among personnel in state police forces and CAPF to date.

The Maharashtra police have 21,988 total numbers of positive cases, Central Reserve Police Force has 10,267 cases, Border Security Force has 8,934 cases, West Bengal police has 7,963 cases, and Central Industrial Security Force has 7,612 cases which makes the highest number of cases in the country.

The 664 personnel have died of Covid-19 across the country until now. Maharashtra (239), CRPF (46), Telangana (44), Karnataka (44), and CISF (29) have reported the highest number of deaths.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected by the pandemic with 2, 61,313 active cases, 11, 17,720 cured and discharged cases, and 37,480 deaths.
