Pune: The state government has decided to withdraw all offences registered under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code against citizens who were found violating the norms and guidelines issued during the COVID19 lockdown in the state. However, the appropriate judicial process will be followed before citizens get the ‘actual’ relief.
There are 28000 such citizens in Pune city alone who were booked under section 188 of IPC. Pune Police had initiated proceedings against them and hundreds of citizens were issued court notices and chargesheet were filed against them. These citizens were asked to be present in the court for further hearing.

Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that “The State Government will withdraw the offences filed under IPC Section 188 against violators amidst Covid19 following judicial norms.”
