Pune: Minor fire at jumbo Covid hospital at COEP Shivajinagar, major tragedy averted

Pune: A minor fire was reported at the jumbo Covid hospital facility at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) ground in Shivajinagar on Sunday morning. A major tragedy has been averted after the fire was brought under control immediately.

As per information received from fire brigade department, a minor fire was started at the compressor on Sunday morning at the jumbo hospital premises. As soon as the information was received, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by the fire personnel. Hence a major tragedy was averted on Sunday morning.

The jumbo Covid hospital facility has been mired in controversies since its inception. The setting up of the facility was delayed by the district administration in the initial phase. Later, the doctors treating Covid-19 patients at the facility were allegedly not providing good treatment and service to the patients. A few days back, a 33-year-old woman had mysteriously disappeared from the jumbo facility and was tracked only after her parents protested against the lethargic attitude of the jumbo hospital administration.

The jumbo Covid hospital is a major facility in Pune city for patients suffering from Covid-19 disease. The jumbo facility has around 800 oxygenated and ventilated beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The Pune Municipal Corporation and district administration overlook after the functioning of the hospital after the private agency Lifeline was removed followed by several complaints of mismanagement.
