Pune PMC to spend Rs 581 crore for developing 12 link roads, 2 bridges in Kharadi Mundhwa area

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved Rs 581 crore fund for developing 12 link roads and two bridges in the Kharadi and Mundhwa area of the city on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and development credit note basis. The two bridges included in this work are Mundhwa to Bund Garden and Mundhwa to Kharadi.

PMC criteria for selecting roads

  • Roads linking two areas
  • Width should be minimum 18 metre
  • Only those roads where land can be acquired easily
  • Areas where IT parks, commercial establishments and township can be developed

PMC, for the first time, has given big budget approval for development projects on credit note basis. It may be recalled that in 2011-2012 PMC had given permission to develop roads of 11 kilometre in length at Kharadi and Mundhwa on basis of this same model. Now, after eight years, PMC has again given a thrust to development in this area. A consultant will also be appointed by the PMC for the new projects, informed PMC Standing Committee chairman Hemant Rasane and Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar.

Benefits of credit note, PPP model

  • PMC does not have to invest upfront
  • Land acquisition is expedited
  • Implementation of city development plan is expedited
  • Credit note valid for next five years

Rasane said this decision will give a boost to development in Kharadi and Mundhwa areas along with the other parts of the city. “We will also approve development of roads on similar principles in other parts of the city as well.”

Bidkar said, “The roads have been selected by the PMC administration. The consultant agency will be responsible for the estimate, maintenance and repair of the road.”
