Surat: A five-year-old girl from a farming family in Bedkuva village of Vyara was shifted to a new civil hospital in Surat in critical condition after swallowing a battery bulb attached with a wire while playing. If the innocent girl was not given proper treatment in time, her life would have been in danger. However, the doctors from ENT department of Civil Hospital immediately performed the surgery and removed the battery bulb trapped with the wire in the right first respiratory tract and saved her life.

Surendrabhai Gamit, who lives in Bedkuva village of Vyara, has two daughters. When her youngest daughter Prezi (5) was playing near the house weeks ago, she suddenly started coughing constantly. Concerned parents rushed Prezi to Vyara Referral Hospital for treatment. Doctors took an X-ray of Prezi’s chest and examined it. A hard substance stuck in the chest appeared in the X-ray. Prezi was then referred to Surat civil hospital for further treatment.

Arriving at Surat Civil late at night, Prezi’s pain was seen to be increasing and the doctors of the ENT department here took her digital X-ray. Which showed a battery-like object trapped with a wire. Prezi was then taken to the operation theater early the next morning. Dr. Anand Chaudhary, Bhavik Patel and Dr. Shari Mitra performed successful surgery under the guidance of Dr. Jaimin Contractor, Head of ENT Department.
