BJP spiritual front demands temples reopening

by pranjalipargaonkar
Mumbai: Even though the Maharashtra state government has started unlocking hotels, bars, restaurants and some local services, temples in the state are still closed. Against that backdrop, BJP’s spiritual front has once again become aggressive. BJP Spiritual Coordinating Alliance president Tushar Bhosale has called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and demanded that temples be opened soon. He was accompanied by representatives of Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, Mahanubhav, ISKCON, Sanyasi and Warkari sects.
Tushar Bhosale has warned that temples in the state should be started by November 1, otherwise they will break the temple locks. The BJP had earlier staged agitation across the state. But Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has still upheld the decision to close the temples.
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding to open temples in the state. The entire state has seen a lot of politics born out of that letter. In that letter, the Governor had asked some questions to remind the Chief Minister of Hindutva. ‘Bar-restaurants started in the state, so why is God locked up? Have you forgotten Hindutva?’ The letter included such questions. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had also given a strong reply to the Governor. My Hindutva does not need your certificate. Also, I don’t need to learn it from anyone, the Chief Minister had said in his letter.
Sharad Pawar had also reacted on this matter. ‘The governor is one of the most important and respected positions in the country. The post of Chief Minister should be maintained just as the post of Governor is respected.’ said NCP President Sharad Pawar, who had launched a scathing attack on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Pawar also wrote a letter directly to Prime Minister Modi expressing his displeasure over the Governor’s letter and objecting to the language in the Governor’s letter.
