Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister takes jibe at Modi over his emotional speech made in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday

Nashik: Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emotional speech in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that Modi should show same sentiments towards protesting farmers.

Pawar was speaking to reporters after the review meeting of state annual budget in Nashik, on Wednesday. The deputy CM is conducting a district-wise review of the state annual budget.

‘Thousands of farmers have been protesting for their rights for three months now. Both sides should take two steps back and find a solution,” Pawar added.

Amid the government-opposition standoff in the Parliament over the farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday bid a tearful farewell to Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad whose term ends next week.

During his 13-minute speech, Modi broke down several times recalling his associating with Ghulam Nabi Azad. “My door is always open for all of you… I will always expect, and value, your views,” Modi had said.

Modi in his speech further said that ‘it would be difficult for Azad’s successor in the Rajya Sabha to match him as he has set very high standards as an MP and as the Leader of the Opposition.’

Earlier, Chhagan Bhujbal had also reacted on Modi’s emotional speech. Bhujbal had said, “Modi sometimes praises the opposition leaders and sometimes criticizes them, including Sharad Pawar. Now we must ask him which of his side is true.”

The tenure of four Rajya Sabha members – Azad, PDP’s Nazir Ahmed Laway, his party colleague Mir Mohammad Fayaz and BJP’s Shamsher Singh Manhas – is ending this week.
