President’s Rule Cannot Be Imposed In Maharashtra, Says Supreme Court

Mumbai : A petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the imposition of President’s rule in Maharashtra was heard today. During the hearing, the court rejected the petition and said that presidential rule could not be imposed in Maharashtra. The Supreme Court has rejected a petition seeking removal of Uddhav Thackeray government and imposition of President’s rule in the state. Questioning the work of the state government, the petitioner had made this demand. The petition was filed following the incidents in Mumbai in particular.

Opposition parties have been pushing to topple the state government since beginning. It is noteworthy that some opposition leaders have been saying that this government is a three-legged race and will not last long. At the same time, the state has been facing many crises since the formation of the government. Amid this, there have been demand for the imposition of presidential rule in the state, saying the government has failed. However, the apex court has rejected the petition saying that the President’s rule cannot be implemented in Maharashtra.

It is alleged that the state government is failing to address the issue of corona in Mumbai and some other parts. The allegations led to the imposition of presidential rule in the state. A petition was also filed in the Supreme Court in this regard. However, the court ruled that presidential rule could not be enforced in the state.
