Pune: Despite court ban, bullock cart race organised in Khed ghat

Pune: Khed police have booked five persons on charges of organizing a bullock cart race despite a court ban on the activity. The bullock cart race was organized at Tinhewadi in Khed tehsil of Pune district on Sunday (November 22).

Police constable Shekhar Chimna Bhoir has registered the FIR in this regard at Khed police station. The five persons have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Epidemic Act.

The suspects booked by Khed police have been identified as Arun Raghu Thigale, Nilesh Chandrakant Pathare, Dhondibhau Baban Aarude, Santosh Shivaji Aarude and Nanabhau Sahadu Aarude, all residents of Tinhewadi at Khed.

According to the FIR, the bullock cart race was organized on Sunday by the suspects despite a ban on such races by the court. A crowd of bullock cart owners and enthusiasts had gathered in the Khed ghat section to watch the race. When Pune Rural Police received a tipoff about this race being organized in the ghat section, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and stopped the race.
