Pune: New aquarium to come up at Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park near Katraj; New park at Kharadi also proposed

Pune: The civic administration in its draft budget of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for FY 2021-22 has proposed to develop a new park at Kharadi and a new aquarium at the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and Wildlife Research Center near Katraj.

PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar made this announcement during his budget presentation on Friday (January 29).

Kumar said, “There are 201 parks or gardens in the city. We are planning initiatives to attract more tourists to places like Saras Baug within the city. These projects have been under taken under the public-private partnership model.”

“We are proposing a new aquarium to be developed at Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park near Katraj. The new park at Kharadi will be developed through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative,” Kumar added.

The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, popularly known as Katraj Zoo is developed on land area of 130 acres at Katraj. It was inaugurated on March 14, 1999.
