Pune: Two youths drown in Mutha river water near Baba Bhide bridge while clicking photos

Pune: The selfie and photo clicking craze has led to drowning of two youth – 17 years and 21 years old – in the Mutha river water near Baba Bhide bridge in Narayan Peth area of the city.

Deccan police station personnel and fire brigade officials have rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Deccan police have registered a case in this regard at the police station.

Heavy rains lashed the city and adjoining areas from Wednesday evening onward. As a result, the water resources department was forced to released water from the Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river basin. Due to this, the riverbed area near Baba Bhide bridge has seen water levels rising.

On Friday evening, Saurabh and his two friends reached the Baba Bhide bridge and entered the Mutha riverbed to click some photos. At that time, one of them started drowning and got carried away with the strong current of the water flow. Other youth tried to save him and got drowned himself.

The third person present at the spot and some nearby citizens informed fire brigade and Deccan police about the incident. Fire Brigade Officer Naiknavare informed that the fire brigade personnels are searching for the two youths.
