Itanagar : Officials have reported that a young soldier of Assam Rifles was martyred and they suspect that it happened in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday when some suspected militants carried out a deadly attack. Changlang SP’s Mihin Gamboa confirmed the jawan’s martyrdom and said that one more injured soldier is undergoing treatment.

Sources said that a water tanker of Assam Rifles was attacked by insurgents. So far, no insurgent organization has claimed responsibility for this attack. Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh – surrounded by Assam, Nagaland and Myanmar – are violence-prone areas where Armed Forces Special Powers Act- AFSPA is in force.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act has been in force in this area for many years. Various insurgent organizations are using forest areas as secret hideouts. Security forces have surrounded the entire area and started a search operation.

In northeast India, the government and security forces have been working together for a long time to restore peace. There was also an atmosphere of peace here for a long time. But, suddenly the militants in Tengmo village of Changlang district carried out the incident. The area is about 300 km from the capital city of Itanagar.

According to the Military Intelligence report, the ULFA leadership led by Paresh Barua and 30-35 militants of NSCN (Khaplang faction) are active in the area. They can be responsible for this incident. On 11 July, security forces killed 6 militants of the underground Naga faction NSCN (IM) in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh. Since then, they were planning to take revenge.
