Hathras Row : Arvind Kejriwal likely to join the Bhim Army protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is speculated to join hundreds of people at Jantar Mantar near India Gate this evening to demand action over the gruesome crime against the 20-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. The protest at India Gate was called by Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad.

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad had organized the agitation at the India Gate. However, the agitation was shifted to Jantar Mantar, 3 km away after Delhi Police imposed restrictions on crowds in the area. Bhim Army protesters are expected to join hundreds of people in a fiery protest at Jantar Mantar.

In a tweet, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi said in support of the protest that prompted the police to ban large crowds around India Gate. The today’s protest has its significance as it is carried out on the day Gandhi was born, who his whole life fought for people of lower caste to deliver them their right to live with dignity.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also today attended a prayer meet at Delhi’s Valmiki Temple. “We will ensure justice for our sister. We won’t sit quietly till she does not get justice,” she said, addressing a crowd of Congress supporters and demonstrators.

The 20-year-old woman, who died on Tuesday created shockwaves in the country. The victim suffered fractures, paralysis and a spinal injury after being assaulted by four men from the upper castes. The police said, she bit her tongue while being strangled. The issue came to light more aggressively, when the dead body of the victim was hastily cremated in the middle of night.

Yogi Adityanath, CM of UP has formed the SIT team to investigate the case and prepare the detailed account of the event. According to Statement, the case has been put on the fastrack. So far all the accused are arrested.
