Mumbai: Former Education Minister Vinod Tawde had declared to fill 12,400 posts of teachers from class 1 to 12 in the state. Of which recruitment of 6000 posts was completed. The rest of the recruitment was put on hold by the finance department on the grounds of coronavirus induced financial crunch. Now, as per the meeting held on December 3, the decision to recruit the rest of the teacher posts in the state has been taken. The recruitment process has begun through a web portal.
There are a large number of vacancies in the state education department. The economic condition of the state is also trouble due to the pandemic. Therefore, the finance department had instructed not to recruit new posts except in medical.
Teachers of classes 1 to 8 have been working at a salary of Rs 6000 per month for the last three years. While teachers from class 9 to 12 are paid Rs 9000. In a time of rising inflation, their families cannot be sustained on such a small amount. Against this backdrop, Minister of State Bachu Kadu had also asked Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad to increase the payment of teachers. However, no decision has been taken yet.
