Pune: Pune police has arrested eight men abd their car driver in connection with abduction. In a shocking incident held at Senapati Bapat road in Pune, a 23 year old woman and her male friend was abducted by eight men and their car driver. An alert passerby who witnessed the incident called up the Pune police control room and gave the car’s registration number. The police intercepted the car at Shirwal on the Pune-Satara highway and rescued the woman. The group had let the woman’s friend go at Katraj ghat.
The police has arrested nine men, as per the police all are now facing charges of kidnapping by using force, impersonation and criminal intimidation, among others. Two of the eight men are home guards. All of them are from Wai in Satara district. The woman’s family had fixed her marriage with one of the eight men. She works at a mall on Senapati Bapat Road. According to the police, both families had agreed to the marriage but the woman had sought time to take a decision.
The main suspect, who is from farming family, had viaited Pune a few times and would get upset seeing the woman talking in a friendly manner with her colleagues in the mall, the police said. On Saturday evening, the woman and her friend were sitting on their respective two-wheelers and chatting after office hours in front of the mall when the group arrived in the car. Claiming to be policemen in plainclothes, they said a case had been registered against the woman.
They forced the woman and her friend into the car and drove towards the university junction and from there onto the Katraj bypass via Pashan and NDA Road, the police said. Senior inspector Anil Shewale of the Chatushrungi police and his team traced the car to its owner — a farmer who rents out his vehicle. The farmer called the driver of the car, who gave his location leading the police to Shirwal. Deputy commissioner of police (zone IV) Pankaj Deshmukh said, “The woman’s friend, after being dropped off at Katraj ghat, walked some distance and then took a lift to reach the Chatushrungi police station around 11.30pm.”
