Pune: Dighi police have booked two persons on charges of attempting to steal the carved stones meant for construction of ‘ghat’ and ‘yadnyakund’ at the Vishwaroop Darshan Manch project at the banks of Indrayani river in Alandi. The incident happened on December 30, 2020 at around 9pm to 9.30pm, while the FIR was registered on Saturday (January 2, 2021).

The suspects have been identified as Rishikesh Telang, D D Bhosale and two others. Rahul Rangnath Randhave (61), a resident of Alandi Devachi in Khed tehsil of Pune district has lodged a complaint in this regard. Based on his complaint, Dighi police have booked the suspects under sections 379 (Punishment for theft), 108 (Abettor), 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Vishwaroop Darshan Manch is a multimedia coliseum with permanent concrete-based screen. It aims to promote mass education program in the fields of interfaith, inter-religious dialogues, human rights education, democracy, world peace, pollution control, health and hygiene issues, role of science and spirituality, sustainable development, conservation of nature etc.

According to police, the complainant works with a prominent organisation which is constructing the Vishwaroop Darshan Manch at Alandi. Carved stones were brought for construction purpose at the project site. The two suspects lifted these stones and put them in a tempo on December 30 night.

While they were about to fleece, complainant Randhave spotted the tempo with stones. He noted down the number and intercepted it. When the tempo driver was asked about his identity he revealed his name as Rishikesh Telang.
